UL announced on Tuesday night that 13 of their football players have been suspended indefinitely by head coach Mark Hudspeth. The players were arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit felony theft.
According to investigators, there is video showing the 13 players going into a dorm room on the fourth floor of the Huger Hall dormitory and stealing around $2,400 worth of items from the room.
Head coach Mark Hudspeth apologized Wednesday morning for the actions of his football players.
“On behalf of our football program,” Hudspeth said, “I would like to apologize to Cajun Nation and the University. We do not condone the behavior that was represented and we expect higher standards of our student-athletes.
“We work diligently every day to guide, educate and develop these young men, so it is disappointing when we do not meet those standards.”
The university also released a statement stating, “The Department of Athletics is being respectful of the judicial process and will not discuss the incident that led to the players’ suspension.”
Police state the stolen items have been recovered and and all 13 students have cooperated throughout the investigation. The suspended students are:

- Levarious Varnado, 20
- D’Aquin J. Withrow, 23
